As a college graduate, I would have loved the extra income being a tutor for many of the local Wilmington children. Had I known about the ability to search for an online tutor, I would have joined and let people find me available as a tutor.

In college I struggled with ADD. I would view an entire class and not grasp any of the facts that were being shown to me. I would have to basically go home and re-teach myself everything that I could have learned in school. The only thing that worked personally was repetition. I would need to restudy and restudy repeatedly until finally things stuck in my head. Finally I realized something, I need a local tutor. Once I found a local tutor everything changed personally. I got better grades and class became easier.

My local tutor would come over once weekly and I would be prepared for his visit with questions that I had from the week’s classes. When he came over I would ask my questions and get him to help me with my homework. This method worked for me personally because my tutor’s teaching method was completely different from my class professor’s. And the repetition solved the problem. I was able to retain more of the information because I had been hearing it again from my tutor. The other benefit was that unlike my class, I had the teacher all to myself so I could ask any queries I felt I needed to inquire about.

Another advantage to finding a local tutor is that normally they are younger. It is not any secret that younger people can usually relate easier to people closer to their age. So rather than attempting to relate to my 70 yr old teacher, I was trying to connect with someone who was just 3 years more than me. This made a huge difference and solved the problem to acquire better grades in my college classes. We were able to make similar connections between whatever i was learning and our generation.

Throughout my entire life I always thought that my parents thought that I would never graduate from college. Because of my learning disability, I think they thought I’d drop out. They often laughed and said that they worried about me failing out of college. By getting a local tutor, I was able to prove them wrong and pass all of my classes necessary to graduate college. When I graduated, they were so proud of me as well as surprised. I was proud of myself also but I definitely owe a great deal of my success to my tutor. I couldn’t have graduated college my tutor.
